Parapet Water Proofing Treatment
Top of the parapet walls should
be adequately waterproofed. Or else however good your terrace
work is done, water can seep in through the top of the parapet
wall as shown in the figure.
Parapet is
a low wall built along the edge of the terrace roof for
safety purposes and as a general appearance for the building.
The top surface of the parapet is to be protected against
weathering by a coping and waterproofing or else water will
seep in as shown from the above figure.
Parapet copings generally are made from cement concrete
slabs and provided with a drip as shown below.
A groove should be provided on the underside of the coping,
the purpose of which is to prevent rainwater running along
the underside to the face of the wall. When the water reaches
the groove, it has to drip down as it cannot move any further.
The water overflowing from the
overhead watertank is seen flowing on the slope and escaping
through the hole made for rain water outlet pipe.
This check ensures that in the
monsoon, rain water will similarly make way along the slope.
